September Offers 'Back to School' First Friday

Greenwood, SC - Various cultural organizations and businesses have partnered to present a large variety of activities and exhibits during the upcoming First Friday activities on Friday, September 5, 2008 in Uptown Greenwood.

Some new organizations, including Meridian!, Greenwood’s first artist incubator facility, will be participating and adding some new features for First Friday patrons to experience.  Activities include:

  • Laurens Artist’ Coop Exhibit and Reception at the Arts and Visitors Center at the Federal Building (120 Main Street), Reception from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Greenwood Community Theatre (110 Main Street) First Friday Film Series presents, “The Bridge on the River Kwai” at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students with id
  • Grand Re-opening of The Museum (106 Main Street) featuring “Hatching the Past”, a dinosaur exhibit. $5 admission for adults, $2 for students, children and members free
  • Local artists at Meridian!  (140 Maxwell Avenue) Denise Waldrep will offer 15 minute portrait drawings and Faye Edge will be displaying photographs on silk in HANDS studio and gallery
  • Art of Anna Grier Bagwell at Jimary Java (330 Main Street)
  • Wheel-throwing demonstrations at Taylor Galleries (327 Main Street)
  • Art of Lander students, JD Alewine and Warren Townsend featured at Uptown Sushi (217 Waller Avenue)
  • Emerald City Region Antique Automobile Club Cruise-In at the Uptown Fountain

 

“We are happy that this First Friday event is catching on to folks in our area. We hope people will continue to bring visitors to Uptown Greenwood to experience the Emerald Triangle Cultural District as well as patronize Uptown businesses,” said Dohnna Boyajian, First Friday planning committee member and arts supporter.

Maps for all First Friday activities will be available at various businesses in Uptown Greenwood prior to the event. The Arts Center at the Federal Building will also be providing information beginning at 6:00 p.m. on First Friday.
