Greenwood Has Ties To Jack Daniel's Cookoff

The grand champion of the Danville, Virginia competition was none other than Greenwood’s own Divine Smoke. The team along with chief cook Dennis Dill will represent the state of South Carolina in the invitational while Bub-Ba-Q, the 2008 winner of this year’s Festival of Discovery, will represent Greenwood.   “It is exciting to be at this level in our BBQ competition career to be involved in such a prestigious event,” said Dill. “This year been great for us winning our first Grand Champion award, 3rd overall in Tryon, NC, and now we are representing our great State of SC and Greenwood as Home State Reps in the Jack Daniels”

Based out of Jasper Georgia, Bub-Ba-Q’s chief cook William “Bubba” Latimer also couldn’t be happier.  

“I am proud to represent the SC Festival of Discovery in the Jack Daniels,” said Latimer.  “Your competition helped us make our dreams come true.  We won the Grand Championship AND we are going to the “Jack”!”

In order to participate, both teams had to undergo a complicated process of elimination.  To be eligible for the Jack Daniel’s Invitational, teams must win a qualifying contest or state championship, such as the Festival of Discovery, and then they are entered into the blind drawing for the "Jack"-- so teams be also be both culinary experts and lucky. 

Divine Smoke and Bub-Ba-Q will compete with other award-winning barbecue teams from the United States and around the globe to claim the top prize.  An all-out battle of the tongs and smoke, The Jack Daniel’s 20^th Annual Invitational Barbeque will be held October 25^th in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
