First Friday - Uptown Greenwood
In 2007 Uptown Greenwood partnered with the Greenwood Arts Council, the Greenwood Visitors and Tourism Bureau, The Museum and the Greenwood Community Theatre to create an event aimed at introducing a wider audience to the unique vitality of the artists and venues of Greenwood. First Friday In Uptown promotes interest in the arts by making it accessible, thereby strengthening the arts community in Greenwood. We invite artists, musicians, groups, galleries and businesses to be a part of this cultural event. On the first Friday evening of every month the streets fill with art lovers of all kinds who wander among participating Uptown venues, enjoying art and people watching, eating at Uptown Greenwood’s restaurants and just plain mingling. Most of the activities are free and take place between 6 and 9 p.m.

Music, Art & More During The May Edition Of First Friday
First Friday is buzzing with activities with thismonth's edition of First Friday. From 5 - 11 PM this Friday, May 7, 2010, Uptown Greenwood will play host to a variety of events including:

ARTifact exhibit featuring the art of Judson Arce at The Museum. Reception from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Simeon Spearman will also be on hand signing copies of his cookbook. |
- Seven local artists will have their work on display during “Art on Oregon”. From 5:30 – 7:30 PM on Oregon Avenue adjacent to The Arts Center at The Federal Building.
- Open Studio for Art Center resident artist Jeffrey Callaham in the lower level of The Arts Center at The Federal Building. Reception from 5 – 8 PM.
- Local artists will open their sketchbooks to paint or sketch “en pleine aire” in the courtyard at Meridian. The artist studios and shops open till 8:00 PM.
- “The World As I See It”, a collection of black & white nature photographs by Lander art student Vincent Wald on display at Howard’s On Main.
- An exhibit of new photographs by Kendall Adams, instructor of the commercial art program at Piedmont Technical College on display at Uptown Sushi.
- Watercolors by Dot Moore on display at TW Boons. "The Tangents" will also be performing "Upstairs" from 8:30 - 11 PM. (cover charge applies).
