Main Street Construction
| Friday, August 15 - Construction continues on the northbound side of Main Street (US 25) from Main/Riley to Main/Maxwell. This phase has about 1 more week of work. Currently, the outside northbound lane of Main Street/US 25 is closed to traffic from Magnolia Avenue through Maxwell Avenue. Access to Riley Street from Main is also closed. When completed, the contractor will be moving to the southbound side of Main from Main/Maxwell to Main/Oak. Check back to this site to receive updates regarding construction's impact on traffic. Maxwell Avenue Facades/Streetscape
Friday, August 15, 2008 - Work continues on Thayers (302 Main Street), requiring a sidewalk closure along the upper section of Maxwell Avenue. Town and Country is continuing their work on the exterior facades of 140, 134, 132, 128, 126, 124, 122 and 120 Maxwell Avenue. Construction requires a sidewalk closure also along this stretch of Maxwell Avenue. In the coming weeks, Town and Country will be moving to a new phase of building facades - 202 - 208 Main Street (Floral Case, Two Old Bags, Gentlemen's Choice, and McCaslan's). Streetscape construction along Maxwell Avenue will begin in September and will last for approximately 6 months. Work will begin on the lower section of Maxwell from Edgefield to Monument. Separate from this project, the property owner at 223 Main Street ('Barksdale Building') has begun the removal of the existing metal facade. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION AND PHOTOS.
New Greenwood County Library
Monday, June 16 - The ground breaking ceremony for the new library was held on Saturday, June 7. Greenwood CPW has begun utility work (water line relocation) associated with the new library construction. Monument Street from the intersection of Washington Avenue to the intersection of Marion Avenue is now permanently closed. This section of road has been deeded to the County and will become a part of the new library property. The first and second floor interior proposed plans of the new library are now available online. Construction plans are being finalized by Craig, Gaulden, Davis and Davis & Floyd Engineers. Construction should begin in the coming months. Construction is anticipated to last a minimum of one year. The new 52,000 square foot Greenwood County Library will be built on the former Winn Dixie location on South Main Street in Uptown Greenwood. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
