The Uptown Greenwood Pro Cycling Challenge is a premier cycling event that is part of the 2008 USA CRITS  Speed Week Championship Criterium Series.  For one evening, Main Street Greenwood is transformed into a world class criterium race course featuring over 100 of the best cycling professionals in the world. 

 

Speed Week is a series of 7 races over 10 days – starting with the Athens Twilight and ending in Sandy Springs.  The series offers $150,000 in prize money to the Men’s and Women’s Professional/Elite Teams.  Speed Week features the best criterium cyclists in the world, racing the downtown streets of seven southern cities.  These downtown areas are transformed into international cycling competition arenas from April 26 – May 4, 2008.  Olympians, world, and nationally-ranked men and women athletes will take to the streets to contest the series, as well as qualifying positions for the USA CRITS Finals.

 

Beginning at 5:30 PM in the fountain parking lot of Uptown Greenwood, a youth bike rodeo and helmet safety check will take place.  Helmets and other items will be given out while supplies last.  A youth race will start at approximately 6:30 PM.  Children wishing to enter the youth races MUST have a helmet and have a parent present to sign a wavier form.
